Transitions (Dual Diagnosis) Program at Alliance Health Center: Why Choose Us?
Our Transitions program provides integrated mental health and substance use treatment that puts hope and healing within reach.
Alliance Health Center serves adults 18+ from across Mississippi and beyond, including people who need support for both mental health and substance use issues. Your stay generally lasts longer than a typical inpatient hospitalization: a standard inpatient psychiatric stay is around one to two weeks, while a stay in Transitions typically lasts closer to three weeks. The extended time frame gives you more space to focus on your goals.
Highlights of our Transitions program include:
- Specialized care: Staff consistently treat people with complex situations, including those on Suboxone for substance use recovery. Our providers can also help manage basic treatment for underlying medical issues, like diabetes. This added support keeps your recovery moving forward.
- Supportive programming: We offer more of the services you need to achieve lasting sobriety. Some people start their journey with inpatient medical detox to manage withdrawal and then move to Transitions. After completing our dual diagnosis program, you may be eligible to continue your care with our outpatient substance use services. Affordable local lodging is available upon request.
- 24/7 admissions: Assessments are available to you at no cost. In many cases, the process starts with a phone screening. We begin by learning about your health history, substance use and treatment goals. This information helps us develop a personalized care plan. Get more information about admissions.
Transitions Dual Diagnosis Services: What to Expect
Integrated mental health and substance use treatment at Transitions gives you access to structured, supportive care. Staff collaborate to help stabilize symptoms and equip you with skills supporting your sobriety and mental health.
Here’s what to expect:
- Group therapy: Topics include coping skills, emotional regulation, relapse prevention and more. The group setting helps you learn from and connect with others facing similar concerns.
- Individual counseling: These sessions offer space to talk through your progress and challenges. The private setting makes it easier to speak openly and get support that’s personalized to your experiences.
- Medication management: Clinical staff may recommend medication for anxiety, depression or other conditions. If this is part of your care plan, we monitor how it’s working and make adjustments as needed.
- Psychoeducation: You learn how mental health and substance use affect the brain and body and how recovery works. We teach you to manage triggers, set healthy boundaries and build a support network.
- 12-step recovery support: Transitions incorporates elements of the 12-step approach through Alcoholics Anonymous and Narcotics Anonymous-inspired groups. These sessions offer peer support and tools to help you continue recovering long after discharge.
- Recreation therapy: You spend several hours each day participating in activities like yoga, art, music, outdoor recreation and therapy dog visits. These experiences reduce stress and enhance your well-being.
- Discharge planning: We coordinate the next steps of your care, which may include continuing treatment through outpatient substance use programs. Efforts may also include arranging appointments with mental health providers closer to where you live.
